weekly retro: crunchy flowers and interesting feline shapes

happy may, may the slog be with us all. after a week and a half of weird joint paint, i was starting to accept that this was perhaps the moment every person who has sat for 4 hours in an endocrinologist's waiting room is told may happen (rheumatoid arthritis), but as of today i've been 5 days without any pain.

photo of me in the gym locker room giving the middle finger but i replaced the background with a photo of a circus happening

"all eyes on me in the center of the ring just like a circus" - britney spears

treadmill selfie i took at the end of my 65-minute walking workout

i did both my aerial classes and went to the gym on an off-day, but this time i did a way more chill incline interval walking workout. i'm not saying that jogging is what fucked up my knees, but i'm too busy this month to test that hypothesis.

photo of a bouquet of flowers at my coffee shop and one of the flowers is a fringed tulip

i love these crunchy looking fringed tulips, they remind me of curly haired cats. i've started to see irises in the park and in some yards, which i'm excited about. i used to live a short bike ride away from presby memorial iris gardens which is the only reason why i know what irises are.

photo of a bathroom wall where someone drew a cartoon of a guy smoking

brett was on a panel after a showing of free for all: the public library at the main library here, so we met for dinner beforehand (the photo above is from the restaurant, not the library lol). brett warned that the documentary may make me cry and he was right! shortly after, i read some better news than usual.

photo of pumagreg smooshing his face into mine while cuddling in bed one morning

andy was out of town for a few days which meant i stayed up until 3am and slept in until noon. pumagreg loves when i do this of course, it probably makes him feel like he's not the only cat in the place.

photo of a small flower bed on a gate in my neighborhood with lots of small and different colorful little flowers

the weather all week was amazing so i did a lot of walking around and enjoying the flowers, (andy don't read this:) yelling at cars almost hitting me on the crosswalk, and stocking up on pantry items and supplies ahead of everyone losing it when the impacts of the tariffs hit.

photo of my hand giving the middle finger to a red square candle i broke while drilling a whole in it for a wick, behind it are over a dozen of the same kind of candle that i successfully drilled holes in without breaking

i wicked so many candles, stephen a. yankee-candle is going to send me a cease and desist because i'm so good at it. i have been developing this fucking candle all month and am so close to getting something ready for sale - 99% of my time is testing wicks and waiting for different ones at this point. i'm so close!

photo of pumagreg turned to look back at me from his water bowl

most of this week is going to be gray and rainy, and i suppose i need that to keep me inside and working on store copy and photos instead of galavanting outside sniffling and photographing tulips - or galavanting inside sniffling and photographing pumagreg in his many weird shapes.

photo of pumagreg laying on the kitchen floor with his legs stretched out but the two front legs are under the fridge, like he's trying to stretch to grab something (but he wasn't)

here's a bonus pumagreg shape. what an odd creature!

things i enjoyed this week that are not pumagreg shapes or flowers with serrated edges

these are all videos, i love watching videos!

  • as i've been writing this retro, i've got lady gaga's record breaking show in brazil playing. i already watched her coachella performance - it's probably a show i'll watch many times more and you can't beat the energy of millions of brazillians in the audience. i couldn't imagine how thrilling this was for gaga. i also love her wardrobe in this one.
  • you'll learn a lot about nuclear energy and tiktok brigading in this video by 'a brush with bekah'. how many art historians and nuclear physicists do we think it'll take to get young people to become more media literate?
  • i liked this color palette video, great for learning about the color wheel and/or getting a refresher on how to use the wheel to make color palettes that look good.
  • support libraries and support public broadcasting! you can watch 'free for all' - the documentary i mentioned earlier - online and for free. while you're at it you should donate to your local library and pbs. there's a lot to learn about the history of libraries and the revolutionaries who built and advocated for them.

this week i've got more candle fails, tension-free inversions, and a brief adventure out of town to get a change of scenery. do they have crunchy tulips in boston? i'll keep you posted...

xoxo jenn
