weekly retro #37: boston soy iced latte party

this past week felt like 3, because it started with me headed by train to boston, where the nor'easter rudely followed me.

my hotel view of a rainy north end boston

i came up here for a consulting that i did a good job at. the weather was awful though, raining in all different directions and cold. i even felt bad for boston for getting such a bad rep on this trip.

photo of my hand checking myself out on a self-checkout line in cvs, it shows surveillance of me in front of the register. i'm buying toothpaste and a lobster souvenir magnet

i wasn't up there long, but i did get a chance to meet up with my pal mike and eat some ravioli and talk about how i think we've made enough qr codes, let's give it a rest i think!

the previous photo of the cvs self-checkout cropped to the lower right corner where there's a paper that says "Please don't"

one of the mornings i ordered a "cafe latte" for room service and in the notes i said "iced if available, with almond milk or oatmilk, coconut allergy" and the guy delivering it said "we only had soy, so here's two soy iced lattes" and i drank one and almost threw up an hour before gig. on my last night it finally stopped raining which was great because i ran out of toothpaste and walked way too far for a cvs.

photo of a hotel tv playing real housewives of salt lake city i think, and it shows a woman just kind of looking unamused

being stuck inside meant i mostly got room service and watched bravo. i don't watch it often, so i was texting my brother (an enthusiast of the genre) a lot of questions. i just can't believe they want us to think they are friends???

photo of the bottom of a window for a physical therapy office on the street that, below a window banner that says "pediatric" among other services is a scary doll and jack o'lantern

it was nice to get home after the 5 hour commute, everything pretty much dry after the huge storm. my hotel's heater kept making knocking sounds and so i didn't really get more than 30 minutes of sleep at a time, which is why when i got home i passed out for a couple hours.

photo of my hand holding a therapy dog card for zoey, a labradoodle rescue that visited my dad in the hospital

finally, someone brought a dog to the hospital so my dad would have at least one trading card before he graduated from the hospital to rehab. i haven't seen the new place yet, but he was playing bingo the other day so i'm feeling pretty good about it.

photo of puma curled up and out on his heating pad and yawning

all the traveling and the shitty weather knocked me out the entire weekend. at least it was the first time we didn't need to turn on the ac at night – of course, it was the first week we needed to turn the heat on at night. i wish there was more of an in-between seasons, but at least pumagreg is loving it that we've got his heating pad out again.

things i enjoyed this week

  • i just started (about 10% of the way in) reading tim curry's memoir, vagabond that just came out. my dad exposed me to rocky horror picture show and it at a young age lol so he's long been one of my all-time favorite performers.
  • the employees who run the dining car for amtrak between new york and boston are always SO NICE and fun to talk to. it's literally the only thing i like about that godforsaken.
  • mike made me cookies to bring back home. they're vegan and have pumpkin, nutmeg, and white chocolate chips. i'll ask him for the recipe and link it here lol sorry.

this week is back to my standard normal week finally, except for a dental cleaning first thing in the morning. it's also the last week i'll be selling halloween candles. it's time for me work on the holiday season offerings.
