weekly retro #35: i'll tell YOU when it's time for spooky things

i was wondering how to intro this retro of the past week and was thinking about how it's a new month and i never went over my september goals or wrote goals for october. that's about where i'm at in relation to the ellipse of time, about a third of a radian behind.

my candle-making area has never looked better though. i finished designing labels and packaging last night, and today i made the final batch of inventory needed for launch. after i wrap up this retro and make dinner, i am finishing up copy and photo direction so i can get these spooky candles on the shop tomorrow.

i love halloween, although i wish it was maybe 2 weeks further out than it actually is. well, actually, do i? sometimes i have to check in with myself as i lament the passing of time and unpack whether said lamenting is actually a form of procrastination and, if so, why am i procrastinating? more often than not, it means i'm just overwhelmed.

i love halloween season. the temps change, there's a bit more whimsy and flavor everywhere, and pumagreg acts like an actual demon as the days get darker. we recently had to put a sliding-door lock on our hallway closet because he kept going in there to get to a spot behind the water boiler where he cannot be reached if stuck. like me, he can be a real bitch sometimes lol.

we've got a couple of hot days ahead before it seems to drop 20 degrees F to what is a more acceptable, true fall temperature. this week i'd like to put away the summer season of clothing and break out all the sleeves!

but before i do all that, i have to get this halloween candle collection out. it's been awhile since i've worked with deadlines tied to dates i have absolutely no ability to move - it reminds me of crunch time ahead of the nba season when i worked there. we'd joke about asking the commissioner to move all-star weekend the week before it was happening so we'd have more time to work on some niche webpage for the event. i'm confident i'll get these spooky candles out with plenty of time lol.

things i enjoyed this week

  • the newest 'answer in progress' is about millennial gray and has been in my watch later all week. i finally got to catch up on it. i just love how much work go into these while still being approachable and not overwhelming with extreme production and/or stock b-roll.
  • this video about the witness protection program and how it impacted one family was a devastating watch about something i knew existed but did not know how it worked.
  • i got some supplies in this week for not only making and shipping the next candle collection, but to work on my 2026 planners. i got some book cloth and cool papers from talas, which came quickly and packed really nicely. i can't wait to start binding!

i'm going to go do some airbrushing and THEN i SWEAR i will do some goals/planning for october. i got back on the rails this week, time to pick up the speed.

xoxo jenn
