weekly retro #27: new coming soon business
this was one of the first weeks where i felt normal in awhile. i wrote a lot, finally put out my monthly newsletter, was active, and was getting stuff done. something clicked in my mind today when i realized my thyroid probably, finally adjusted to my new dose.
this week started at the same picnic table it ended. if you know, you know. if you don't, that's okay, perhaps one day we will be pals and i'll get to show you. you'll get to meet my sparrow friends who get more and more daring every season!
pumagreg would be so mad if he knew how close the animals outside get to me. i've caught this little guy twice this week sitting on the toilet. my theory is that sometimes the lights outside catches the aquatic toilet seat in a way that he thinks the fish are real.
the weather was really nice this week, so i had my usual 3x aerial yoga and 1x gym visits. my gym membership expires in a few weeks (signing up was the first thing i did on the day after my last day at fastly) so i've been thinking about if i wanted to renew.
one night this week i turned off my health app from step tracking, deleted all the data from my apple watch (which is on its last legs anyway), and essentially retired from using technology in my heath journey. i'm not a professional athlete, and i'm tired of being a data farm for free, so i'm going to go back to just doing my thing without a screen on me. i got myself a normal ass watch on the way because having a timer on my wrist is so handy.
friday was the 1-month anniversary of the soft lauch of my store, bugs rock. this week my work will mostly be reflecting on lessons from last month, acknowledging my fears and if they've been neutralized, seeing what new fears i may have developed and how i can tap into those next. i decided this week to try out using obsidian again, but this time watching youtube videos on how people use it because i was quite confused by it but today i am not.
i streamed while writing html to add my book projects to my website. it's fun to connect with my dev friends while i'm streaming, it scratches the itch that no longer having an office to go to left. i would love to become friends with more candle-makers, even those who do it just for fun. i'm working on creating more content about candles and candle-making so i can reach that community. if you make candles, i'd love to hear from you and share what you make!
friday was also the 8-year anniversary of my and andy's first date. we went out for dinner downtown, pointing out all the places have have come and gone over the last several years. i moved to jersey city about three years before i even met andy. so much changes all the time, which is scary but exciting! eight years ago i made a wonderful, lifelong connection with one of the kindest, smartest, beautiful humans on earth.
last year i had a full-time corporate job! but now i Do Candles, and i got myself some nice ones as a gift to myself for what a great job i did the last month on bugs rock, and to incentivize me to do an even better job over the next month. i unboxed them with my pal lisa and i'll share with you all what we thought of them soon.
things i enjoyed this week
- secret base has a new podcast called 'big deal', starting with one of the funniest nights on nba twitter. whether you know what i'm talking about or not, watch the video, it's very good. i love secret base.
- andy and i have been loving these youtube recycling bin videos by kvn aust. these are the oldest, least viewed videos that typically have device-given file names like "MOV00018". have you noticed that i keep the device-given file names of the photos i share on here?
i'm feeling energized and motivated to get organized and experiment and try new things this week. life is a highway!
